The idea is that the overwhelming use of cars in these cities, limits the freedom of people to move in their own city. There is a car culture that has been developed, leading to an extreme dependence on them. The number of cars is increasing exponentially due to the increasing demand for them. It’s almost as if the people of these cities have become dependent on the automotive industry as a basic necessity of life. People with financial resources involved in the luxury of acquiring more cars, leading to diminishing returns, that they benefit from every vehicle.
A whirlpool effect is created by dependence on the automobile industry.
